About us
Te Hono ki Raukawa was established in 2008 to support hapū and iwi of Ngāti Raukawa to prepare and present their Treaty of Waitangi claims to the Waitangi Tribunal.
Te Hono is made up of a coalition of three closely related iwi: Te Reureu, Ngāti Kauwhata and Ngāti Raukawa. They are each represented on the Te Hono council by Dennis Emery (Chair), Tā Taihākurei Durie, Hare Arapere, Bruce Smith, Mereana Selby, Whatarangi Winiata, Rachael Selby, Robyn Richardson, Barb Rudd and Tony Manning.
Assisting Te Hono is a small project and communications team including Queenie Rikihana-Hyland, Azriel Ratū, Whare Akuhata and Kaihautū Daphne Luke.
The purpose of Te Hono ki Raukawa is to support hapū/iwi to prepare and present their Waitangi claims to the Tribunal. Te Hono has a sunset clause in its constitution that says the Trust will disestablish once its purposes are met.
Our focus has been to manage our research programme including consultation on the technical and historical issues reports being prepared and management of our own oral and traditional history project, He Iti Nā Motai.
In March this year, Te Hono supported the Wai-113 Forum and their Northern Planning Committee to host the first of the Waitangi Tribunal hearings at Hato Pāora College, Feilding.
